History has been made at Moonee Valley on Saturday night, with champion Winx winning a record fourth straight Cox Plate.

The Australian mare is out by herself in Cox Plate history, surpassing Kingston Town, who won three in a row from 1980.

Jockey Hugh Bowman produced a dream run, jumping well and sitting the race favourite mid-pack for most of the race, but that changed as the field turned for home and Winx moved up in the field with 300 metres to go.

From there, Winx did what she does best, majestically riding up and passing Benbatl to cross the line alone with nearly 40,000 people screaming for her.

Along with a fourth-straight Cox Plate, the win brings a 29th straight victory for the mare, including 22 Group One wins.

Winx beat Benbatl by two lengths, with Humidor another two-and-three-quarter lengths behind in third place.

Canterbury trainer Michael Pitman was there to see his horse Savvy Coup, ridden by Kiwi jockey Chris Johnson, finish seventh in the eight-horse field.
