An NRL staff member has apologised to a DJ for using racist language during the historic rugby league test between Australia and Tonga in Auckland on Saturday.

The NRL confirmed it has completed their investigation into the incident, including facilitating a meeting between Tongan DJ Alf 'Al Goodie' Aholelei and the casual staff member.

Aholelei called the incident "shocking" and "completely uncalled for", adding: "I've never experienced anything like that in my life."

He said the comment marred an evening which was otherwise a celebration of Tongan pride and culture at Mt Smart Stadium.

The NRL said Mr Aholelei had accepted an apology and the worker's explanation for his comments, and the man has agreed to attend cultural training and education.

They added they were aware of their cultural diversity with 45 percent of players having Pasifika heritage.

Australia won the historic test 34-16.
