Rugby League: England coach Wayne Bennett slams media over Rabbitohs questioning

England coach Wayne Bennett has threatened to walk away from a press conference, after he was continually quizzed about his move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

On Thursday, the Rabbitohs announced the signing of Bennett on a two-year deal from 2020, while Anthony Seibold is likely to get the job at the Broncos, following a board meeting next week.

Bennett, who is currently with the England national team, addressed the media on Friday (NZ time) to talk about his decision to move to the Redfern-based side, which was followed with another conference later in the day to talk about Sunday's test against the NZ Kiwis in Hull.

But the seven-time premiership-winning coach was further questioned about the Rabbitohs move, which didn't sit well with the 68-year-old.

"I addressed that earlier this morning, so I'm not going to talk about that," said Bennett. "I'm here to talk about England and if you don't want to talk about that, we'll move on."

He was then asked a similar question, which was when Bennett threatened to leave the conference.

"You didn't hear what I just said? Listen mate, I'll just walk away - I'm not going to talk about it.

"I just said I did a press conference this morning regarding it. If you weren't there, that's not my problem.

"I want to talk about England and that's it."

Finally addressing the test, Bennett said he was impressed with how well the young Kiwis played against the Kangaroos two weeks ago in Auckland.

New Zealand pulled off an impressive 26-24 win over Australia earlier this month to end the world champions' 13-match winning streak.

Bennett expects the Kiwis to be a bigger force compared to when the two teams last met in the Denver test in June.

"The three-match series is like Origin. First game's really important - they're all important - there won't be one of these games that's not important.

"You like to get that first one up if you can and play well, and know that you've got thing in place, maybe you can lose a game in the last minute.

"But as long as we're in there, matching it with them, it gives you the opportunity to come back in the second game and get it right."

The winner of the three-match series will claim the Baskerville Shield, which the English currently hold, after winning the 2015 series 2-1 under former coach Steve McNamara.
