The Australian Prime Minister's XIII annual rugby league match against Papua New Guinea's in Port Moresby was brought to a halt following a "scary" pitch invasion.
The match was brought to an abrupt halt midway through the first half when thousands of Papua New Guineans began pouring on to the field.
The supposed cause of the delay was sparked by a report one of the light towers was going to fall, sending a flurry of fans out of the stands and onto the field.
Some of the fans used the chance to get up close and personal with some of the game's best.
The match was stopped for almost 10 minutes before officials and police managed to escort the thousands of fans back to their seats.
"At first I was a bit scared," Jake Trbojevic told NRL.com
"But they just love their footy - they just wanted to shake our hands. At first, everyone was a bit worried trying to run off the field, but it was harmless."
Prop David Klemmer shared similar thoughts.
"I didn't know what was going on with all the fans running on the field," he said.
"A lot of commotion and the coppers were on the field and the next minute people were spread everywhere. It was pretty scary. That's just part of it. They enjoy their footy. They just wanted to get on the field and touch you."
Australian coach Mal Meninga said he understands why the fans would have run onto the field.
"You can't blame them [for running on]. If I'm sitting in the crowd and I think the lights are going to come down on me, I'd be jumping on the field too."
The Australian PM's XIII went onto win the match 34-16.
