Watch: French rugby referee Romain Poite knocked out in European Cup match

French rugby referee Romian Poite was accidentally poleaxed by Leinster flanker Rhys Ruddock in a Champions Cup match between the Irish club and Wasps.

Leinster vice-captain Ruddock was having a stellar game, with 17 carries and five tackles, before colliding with Poite, as he raced to get to a breakdown.

The whistleblower was hammered in the back, sending him to the turf head first and knocking him out in the process.

Poite, who notoriously refereed the All Blacks' draw against the British & Irish Lions last year, recovered quickly and was ushered off the field by medical personal, but not before Ruddock came over and apologised for the collision.

Poite was checked over by doctors in the dressing room, but was cleared of any concussion symptoms, according to reports.

Leinster thrashed Wasps 52-3.
