All Blacks vs Italy: NZ players snubbed from November World XV

  • 22/11/2018

Just one All Blacks player has been named in a combined November test team by Wales Online's Rob Lloyd.

Lock Brodie Retallick is the only New Zealand international selected in a team that features mainly northern hemisphere players.

But the 27-year-old's spot in the team is questionable, after a below-par performance in the 16-9 defeat to Ireland on Sunday.

"Was a towering presence in a man-of-the-match display at Twickenham, soaring to disrupt the English lineout at a crucial period of the game," Lloyd wrote.

"Retallick wasn't able to hit similar heights in Dublin, making a couple of uncustomary errors, but he is the heartbeat of this All Blacks team, a multi-skilled forward, who is regarded by many as the best player on the planet the moment."

Fullback Damian McKenzie, along with wingers Rieko Ioane and Ben Smith were all considered, but were beaten out in their respective positions.

In total, only three southern hemisphere players were included, with the Wallabies and Springboks reduced to one each as well.

David Pocock was named at number eight, while barnstorming prop Steve Kitschoff was South Africa's lone selection.

Ireland had the most players on the list with six, while three France players and two Welshmen feature. At second-five, Owen Farrell was the lone English player selected.
