The Blackcaps have made a strong start to day two of the first test match against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.

Jeet Raval put down a chance early on in the innings but all was forgotten a few overs later.

The visitors made the breakthrough in the 14th over of the day, thanks to a loose shot from Haris Sohail (38) who chipped a full toss to Tom Latham off the bowling of Ish Sodhi.

Azhar Ali (22) departed five balls later after keeper BJ Watling took a screamer low to his right off the bowling of strike-bowler Trent Boult.

Babar Azam (24) and Asad Shafiq (25) lead the Pakistan fight back, as they batted their way to lunch on 144 for four, trailing the Blackcaps by nine runs.

Positive signs for the Kiwis as both Ajaz Patel and Ish Sodhi are finding a heap of turn on the day two pitch.

The Kiwis only managed 153 runs in their first innings thanks to captain Kane Williamson scoring 63.
