The Blackcaps have made a promising start to the second test against Pakistan in Dubai.

After losing the toss, the NZ bowlers created a number of early opportunities as seamer Colin De Grandhomme made an impression with the new ball.

While one of those chances was squandered by Tom Latham at first slip, he soon made up for his mistake.

Latham held a tough one to send Hafeez waling for just nine runs, then two overs later, had Imam-ul-Haq dismissed to add two wickets to De Grandhomme's name.

With the score at 25/2, Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail consolidated the hosts' innings to see them through to 56/2 at the lunchbreak.
