The White Ferns have claimed their first win at the T20 Cricket World Cup with a 54-run win over Pakistan in Guyana in the West Indies - but too late.

Setting Pakistan 145 to win, New Zealand dismissed Pakistan for 90 in the 19th over of their penultimate game.

While the Ferns batters set a challenging score to chase down, the bowlers led the way, with Jess Watkin and Amelia Kerr collecting three wickets each.

But despite the win, the White Ferns can't make the semi-finals, after losing their opening two games to India and Australia.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first, with Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates getting New Zealand off to a great start, scoring 59-runs for the first wicket, when Bates (35) departed.

Devine (32), captain Amy Satterthwaite (26) and Katey Martin (29) all contributed, as the Kiwis finished on 144/6 in their 20 overs.

Pakistan captain Javeria Khan (36) got their chase off to a good, but when she departed at 57/4, the White Ferns took advantage to snatch the last five wickets for 18 runs.

Watkin was named the player of the game, finishing 3/9 off her four overs, including 17 dot balls, while Kerr was 3/21.

The White Ferns will continue playing for pride in their final group game against Ireland on Sunday.
