NBL: Breakers lose nail-biter to defending champions Melbourne United

The New Zealand Breakers have gone down in a close game against defending champions Melbourne United in Invercargill.

Both teams shot over 50 per cent for the game in what was a high scoring thriller in the deep south, Melbourne going on to win 108-101.

It was a shooting clinic from the opening play with 47 threes being shot throughout the game.

Down 24-31 after the first quarter, Corey Webster lead the home side on an offensive surge scoring `18 points in the first half to take a 58-51 lead to the break.

Melbourne United started the second half the better of the two sides getting their lead back going into the last quarter.

Casper Ware hit two big three point shots late in the fourth quarter before Chris Goulding hit the killer blow to the Breakers.

Corey Webster had a game high 31 points and added eight assists in what was an incredible performance from the Kiwi guard.

Josh Boone was the standout for the visitors, scoring 26 points and collecting nine rebounds and four blocks on the night.

The Breakers will now travel to Sydney where they will take on the Kings on Sunday at 7:20pm (NZT).
