Canada are on the verge of qualifying for the 2019 Rugby World Cup after a hard-fought 29-10 win over Germany in a round-robin repechage tournament France on Sunday (NZ time).
The win comes a week after they beat Kenya 65-19 in their first of three matches in the four-team tournament.
Canada were pushed by Germany leading17-10 heading with 10 minutes on the clock, but two late tries secured them a bonus point win.
A losing bonus point against Hong Kong in the final match of the tournament on November 24 would be enough for the Canucks to claim the final spot in the 20-team tournament.
Hong Kong still have a mathematical chance of qualifying themselves, but they would need to score a bonus-point win over Canada, and win by 58 points.
Canada have won five out of six meetings between the two nations - with their last fixture taking place in 1998.
The winners of the four-team playoff - involving Canada, Kenya, Germany and Hong Kong - will join the All Blacks in Pool B, alongside South Africa, Italy and Namibia at next year's tournament.
Earlier in the day, Hong Kong comprehensively beat Kenya 42-17.
They trailed 14-0 after 23 minutes, but fought back to score six answered tries.
The defeats for Kenya and Germany mean that they now cannot qualify for the tournament in Japan.
