Rugby: Canada into All Blacks' Rugby World Cup pool after winning repechage tournament

Canada will join the All Blacks in Pool B at next year's Rugby World Cup after winning a four-team repechage tournament to claim the 20th and final spot for next year's tournament.

The Canucks defeated Hong Kong 27-10 on Saturday (NZ time) to finish the tournament unbeaten in Marseille, France. Canada previously beat Kenya 65-19 and Germany 29-10 in the repechage.

Hong Kong had a mathematical chance of qualifying themselves, but they would have needed to score a bonus-point win over Canada, and outscore them by 58 points.

But Canada showed their class in horrid conditions, outscoring Hong Kong three tries to one, with star winger DTH van der Merwe scoring a brace.

Along with the All Blacks, Canada joins South Africa, Italy and Namibia in Pool B.

Canada and the All Blacks have faced off five times in the past, with New Zealand winning every time.

They last played during the 2011 World Cup when New Zealand won 79-15. They also met in a 2007 mid-year test, along with meetings at the 2003, 1995, and 1991 World Cups.

Earlier in the day, Germany beat Kenya 43-6 to finish second in qualifying.
