Rugby: Maori All Blacks, Black Ferns stars take to NBA court

Māori All Blacks halfback Brad Weber and Black Ferns winger Renee Wickliffe were given the chance of a lifetime to show off their basketball skills when the Chicago Bulls hosted the Denver Nuggets on Thursday (NZ time).

The teams are in Chicago for their respective matches against the USA Eagles this weekend as part of a triple header which includes a match between Ireland and Italy.

Members of all teams took part in the challenge which involved spinning your head around a baseball bat and then run down the court and make a lay-up at the United Centre.

"Being here at an NBA game ticked one thing of my bucket list," Wickliffe told All Blacks TV.

"It was cool to get out there on the court and be amongst the crowd. It was an amazing atmosphere."

Weber concurred saying it was an unreal experience.

"That was bloody cool just being on the court that [Michael] Jordan and the likes were on. It's unreal," Weber told All Blacks TV.

After the match, Weber snapped a photo with Nuggets star Isaiah Thomas.

Standing at 1.75m, Thomas is one of the shortest active players in the NBA, and is 3cm taller than Weber.

He shared the photo on his Instagram page.

"A dude my size a superstar in the NBA, there's hope for us all," Weber said in his post.

"I'm a huge basketball fan, if I was a foot taller I reckon I would have been a basketball player."

The Nuggets won the match 108-107
