Blackcaps vs Pakistan: Kane Williamson, BJ Watling boost NZ in third test

The Blackcaps have made a steady start to the decisive third test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.

The New Zealanders battled through to 229/7 at stumps on Day One, with BJ Watling's determined knock of 42 off 180 balls anchoring the innings.

He combined with Kane Williamson to get the NZ effort back on track, after dangerous leg-spinner Yasir Shah's quick three wickets saw a semi-collapse at the top of the order.

Williamson made 89 from 176 balls, before falling to Hasan Ali, hitting seven boundaries and combining in a fifth-wicket partnership of 104 with Watling.

At the close of play, debutant Will Somerville was also at the crease, sitting on 12 off 46 balls.

Earlier, the Blackcaps won the toss and elected to bat first.
