Cricket: Australian spectators evicted over racist taunts during India test

Australian cricket fans have been kicked out of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for racially motivated taunts directed at Indian supporters and players during the Boxing Day test.

Chants of "show us your visa" were a regular feature of the first three days from the MCG's notorious Bay 13 - which is well known for where the rowdy spectators usually sit - which led to spectators being ejected and others warned.

Footage of the chant, obtained by ESPNcricinfo, was passed on to Cricket Australia (CA), who in turn passed the video on to Victoria Police and stadium management.

ESPNcricinfo reported that the chants were the subject of multiple complaints during the test.

Other chants such as "[Virat] Kohli a wanker" were also reported but not deemed worthy of a warning.

A CA spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo: "Cricket Australia takes a zero-tolerance stance against any form of abuse or racial vilification at any of our matches, whether it be towards fans, players, or staff.

"Fans are able to report this to stadium staff or security. Victoria Police and MCG stadium security monitored the behaviour of the crowd in a section of the stadium today and evicted several fans for inappropriate behaviour.

"They will continue to monitor the area for remaining days of the test."

India will resume Day Four of the third test on 54/5 - a lead of a 343 runs lead in their second innings.
