Blackcaps skipper Kane Williamson is hot on the heels of Indian counterpart Virat Kohli in test batting rankings, after his match-winning performance against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.
Williamson scored 89 and 139 in the third test, leading his side to their first away series win against Pakistan in almost half a century.
The 28-year-old is up to second in test rankings, becoming the first New Zealand batsmen to break the 900-point mark in the ICC player lists.
Williamson is just seven points behind Kohli, after leapfrogging suspended Australian captain Steve Smith, who hasn't played a test since March.
Another poor showing by Kohli in Perth could see the Kiwi take the top spot in a week's time - the Indian skipper scored just 37 runs in his two turns at bat against Australia in Adelaide.
Cantabrian left-hander Henry Nicholls added to the good news for the victorious New Zealand side, cracking the top 10 for the first time in his young career.
Nicholls scored a brilliant 126 not out in the second innings of the final test, sharing in a 212-run stand with his captain.
The 27-year-old jumped from 17th to ninth and is now the country's second-highest ranked batsmen, ahead of Ross Taylor (16th) and BJ Watling (22nd).
Trent Boult remains the top New Zealand test bowler, ranked eighth, ahead of Tim Southee (15th)
