Rugby: Former All Blacks Liam Messam scores bizarre try for French club Toulon

Former All Black Liam Messam has scored one of the most uncommon varieties of try you're ever likely to see.

Playing for French club Toulon, Messam collected a shot at goal from first-five Francois Trinh-Duc that rebounded off the crossbar of the goalposts and fell perfectly into his arms, then powered through a handful of defenders to dot down.

Frenchman Trinh-Duc could only shake his head and laugh as his teammate came up with ball in hand, Messam later joking on social media that it was just reward for a career of backing up the goalkicker.

"I've been chasing these kicks for 16 years and finally got a meat pie [try]," he said in an Instagram post.

The 34-year-old's try helped propel Toulon to a 40-7 demolition of Lyon.
