The streaking Wellington Phoenix have terminated the contracts of Australians Mitch Nichols and Rueben Way.

Both have left the A-League club by mutual consent.

Midfielder Nichols failed to impress in a starting role against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday.

With the Phoenix trailing 2-0 at half-time, he was substituted in a game they would go onto win 3-2, thanks to a brace from Roy Krishna.

Way, a defender, saw just 11 minutes of action this season, after being signed from Victorian Premier League club Heidelberg United.

"Wellington Phoenix would like to thank Mitch and Reuben for their contributions, and wish them all the best for their future endeavours," said a club statement on Tuesday.

The Phoenix will look to make it nine games without a loss, when they travel to Melbourne to take on the Victory on Sunday.
