ASB Classic: Philipp Kohlschreiber ousts Fabio Fognini in quarter-finals

Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber has advanced to the semi-final stage of the ASB Classic with a straightforward 6-3, 6-1 win over second seed Fabio Fognini.

Kohlschreiber - winner of the 2008 tournament - was in control throughout against an out-of-sorts Fognini, whose frustrations became increasingly apparent during the final set, as the unforced errors mounted.

Fognini was the highest-ranked player left in the event and one of only two surviving seeds - fourth-seeded Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta will face German Jan-Lennard Struff on Thursday evening.

The German will progress to take on Tennys Sandgren, after the American became the first player to claim a spot in the final four with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Argentinian Leonardo Mayer in the day's first quarter-final.

In other centre-court action, New Zealand-raised Briton Cameron Norrie delighted his large contingent of supporters with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over American Taylor Fritz.

Norris will take on Jan-Lennard Struff after the German beat Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6 (5) 6-7 (6) 7-6 (7).
