EPL: Tottenham, Leicester, Arsenal record wins to start 2019

Tottenham moved back into second place in the English Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool, after cruising to a 3-0 win at lowly Cardiff City.

Liverpool face third-placed Manchester City on Friday (NZ time), and City could move above Spurs if they avoid defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

But Spurs, beaten by Wolves at home on Sunday, took just three minutes to get in front in South Wales through the familiar source of captain Harry Kane.

After Kane launched an attack, surging from deep, Kieran Trippier crossed, and England's captain tapped the ball in after it ricocheted off Cardiff defender Sean Morrison.

Kane had previously scored at least once against 27 of the 28 Premier League opponents he had faced, with Cardiff, the solitary team he had failed to net against in three previous encounters.

Christian Eriksen made it 2-0 nine minutes later with a clever finish from the edge of the box.

And the game was effectively over in the 26th minute when Son Heung-Min produced a clinical finish with a shot on the turn after being well set-up by Kane.

The South Korean has scored 11 goals in his last 12 starts.

Cardiff remains in 16th place, three points above the relegation zone.

Earlier Jamie Vardy's 58th-minute strike gave Leicester City a 1-0 win at Everton and condemned Marco Silva's side to their fourth defeat in five EPL games.

After a poor first half, the decisive goal came when Everton defender Michael Keane mis-controlled the ball to Ricardo Pereira, who sent Vardy through.

The striker made no mistake with a low drive past Jordan Pickford before celebrating with a cartwheel in front of the travelling Foxes fans.

Leicester should have doubled their lead when Harry Maguire somehow missed the target from point-blank range.

Everton, with just one win from their last eight games, have now failed to win in their last four home matches while the win moves Leicester up into seventh place, on 31 points, four behind Manchester United.

Aaron Ramsey was on the scoresheet as Arsenal beat second-bottom Fulham 4-1 to cement their position in fifth place.

The forward, out of contract in the summer and linked with a move away from the London club, scored his side's third as they eased to victory.

Arsenal sits three points ahead of Manchester United and five behind Chelsea, both of whom play on Thursday.

Ramsey's future has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks, with media reports suggesting he is wanted by many of Europe's biggest clubs.

But the Wales international, who started on the bench, made his mark with the third goal as Arsenal kept Fulham rooted in the relegation zone.

Heavily-beaten at Liverpool last time out, Arsenal were in control from the moment Granit Xhaka (25) and Alexandre Lacazette (55) made it 2-0.

Aboubakar Kamara scored from close range 20 minutes from time to give Fulham hope. But Ramsey restored their two-goal advantage soon after and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completed the scoring with a deflected strike for the fourth seven minutes from the end.
