Blackcaps opener Martin Guptill will miss the final one-day international against India on Sunday.

Guptill aggravated a pinched nerve during fielding practice on Saturday and had to be escorted off the ground for treatment.

Colin Munro has been recalled and will likely partner Henry Nicholls at the top of the order in Wellington.

"Martin’s been assessed this morning and while his movement has improved significantly overnight, he is still in some pain and it’s better for him to rest at this stage," Blackcaps physio Vijay Vallabh said on Saturday.

"Martin will stay in Wellington with the T20 squad and be monitored over the coming days ahead of the first match of the series on Wednesday."

Guptill has struggled for runs through the series against India, failing to get past 15 through the first four matches.

With the series already lost, New Zealand's dead rubber against India gets underway at Westpac Stadium from 3pm.
