The Central Districts have taken out the Super Smash T20 competition, beating the Northern Knights by 67 runs in Hamilton.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, a decision Stags captain Tom Bruce would rue almost immediately.

South African import Kyle Abbot struck first for Northern, claiming opener Will Young for just zero off two balls.

The 31-year-old took George Worker's wicket 16 balls later to put the visitors on the back foot at 24/2.

South African Dean Foxcroft was the only batsman to stand up for the Stags, scoring 63 runs off 50 balls.

The Knights' experience shone through, with Blackcaps Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi and Mitch Santner taking the next five wickets for just 41 runs, as the Stags limped to 147/8 off their 20 overs.

In reply, the Knights were embarrassed, dismissed for just 80.

Tight bowling was the key for the Stags, as the Knights batted their way out of the final.

Tim Seifert (18), Dean Brownlie (15) and Mitch Santner (13) were the only Northern players to reach double figures, as Adam Milne claimed three wickets for just 12 runs off 2.4 overs to secure the win and help the Stags to their first title since 2010.
