Sevens: All Black Sevens thrash Fiji to advance to final

The All Black Sevens have made a huge statement in Sydney, thrashing pre-tournament favourites Fiji 36-14 to advance to the final.

Ng Shiu opened the scoring for New Zealand after having the bulk of the possession early.

The big talking point in the match came towards the end of the first half when Meli Derenalagi was red-carded after a dangerous tackle on second try scorer Scott Gregory.

It was one way traffic after that, the Kiwis running away with the match to book a spot in the final.

Earlier, they picked up where they left off on day one with a 28-5 win over France in the quarter-final of the Sydney leg of the World Rugby Sevens.

Jina Nareki opened the scoring for the Kiwis and Regan Ware took the lead out to 14-0 just before half-time.

Sam Dickson and Lukarisitone James Ng Siu scored on either side of a Thibault Mazzoleni try to secure the victory.

New Zealand will face the high-flying Americans in the final at 10:56pm NZT.
