Super Bowl 2019: Don't bet against Tom Brady at this time of year

OPINION: Super Bowl 2019 is set to take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Monday (NZT), and promises to be an electric affair between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams.

The story is one of two opposites - the New England Patriots will be looking to win their third title in four years.

For the Rams, it couldn't be any different - the last time they played in the title decider was in 2002. Then known as the St Louis Rams, the team took a 24-year-old quarterback Tom Brady to the wire, eventually losing 20-17.

Nineteen years later, the now 41-year-old Brady will suit up for his ninth Super Bowl appearance.

The Los Angeles side boast a plethora of offensive talent, spear-headed by young quarterback Jared Goff.

The two-pronged running back attack of Todd Gurley and CJ Anderson has been lethal since the acquisition of Anderson on December 18.

Former Patriot wide receiver Brandin Cooks will look to get the last laugh over his former team, after being traded in April last year.

But the way the Rams will win this game will be on the defensive end. Defensive tackles Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh will look to rush the pass, and make it as hard for Brady as they can.

Expect Bill Belichick to do what he does best and take away the opposition's best option. In this instance, he will try to eliminate Donald, which begs the question - can Suh step up and stop Brady?

The Patriots will try to negate the greatness of Donald and Suh by getting rid of the ball quickly. As usual, expect wide receiver Julian Edelman and running back James White to get a heap of touches for small gains.

Also expect tight-end Rob Gronkowski to get more throws then he has all season, being one of Brady's main men in close situations.

Brady has been a different beast in Super Bowls, owning almost every quarterback record there is. You just can't write the Patriots off.

Brady is like Jason Voorhees - you think he's down, you think he's out and then he pops out and gets you. Just ask the Atlanta Falcons, who would've felt like they were in a Friday the 13th movie two Super Bowls ago.

Coach Belichick is a genius - give him two weeks to find flaws in the Rams roster and flaws he will find.

I have one rule in sport and that is never bet against Brady, especially around this time of the year.

His five Super Bowl rings have come from five game-winning drives. Don't be surprised if, come Monday, it's six.

Prediction:  Patriots 35 Rams 28, Brady throws for over 300 yards and Gronkowski scores two touchdowns.
