Super Rugby 2019: Brumbies run over Chiefs in Canberra

The Brumbies have made a statement in the Super Rugby competition by embarrassing the Chiefs 54-17 in Canberra.

The visitors were made to pay for all their errors in the match with the hosts running in eight tries including five in the first half.

Both sides came into the match with points to prove after they lost their opening round fixtures.

The Chiefs opened the scoring with a first minute penalty but it was all the Brumbies after that, scoring three tries in a nine minute window to open up a 21-3 lead.

It was far too easy for the hosts, breaking the Chiefs defensive line with almost every possession.

The visitors managed to score a try of their own in the first half through winger Ataata Moeakiola.

A length of the field try sealed the deal for the Australian side in the 52nd minute - Chance Peni finishing what was the try of the night to take the match to a 40-10 score line.

The visitors scored a try after that but the Brumbies had the last laugh and perhaps every laugh throughout the night, scoring two tries in the final 10 minutes to cap off a great night for them.

It was supposed to be a celebration for the Chiefs with Captain Brodie Retallick running out for his 100th cap. However, there was nothing to celebrate after the Brumbies stampede at GIO Stadium.

He became the sixth Chiefs player to play 100 games joining Liam Messam, Tanerau Latimer, Stephen Donald, Sam Cane and Hika Elliot in the elusive club.
