A-League: Expansion Western United reportedly targets Wellington Phoenix duo

New A-League franchise Western United is reportedly trying to lure off-contract Wellington Phoenix duo David Williams and Filip Kurto across the Tasman.

The World Game on SBS in Australia claims the Victorian club's new head coach, believed to be Phoenix boss Mark Rudan, wants to bring Williams and Kurto with him.

Rudan was first linked to the role last month, but has been tight-lipped about his future, as he focuses on guiding the Phoenix to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

Rudan has said he would leave, unless the Phoenix relocate his Sydney-based family to New Zealand.

The Phoenix sit in fourth with six regular-season games remaining, and both forward Williams and goalkeeper Kurto have played massive roles in the resurgence.

Williams, 31, has scored seven goals in 20 appearances this season, while Kurto, 27, has made the most saves (78) in the A-League.

Earlier this month, reports also linked Kurto with European clubs.
