Biography:

In addition to his world class abilities as an all-rounder, Mathews has the kind of big game experience that's so critical on the World Cup stage.

He was a key part of the Sri Lankan teams that made the final of both the 2011 tournament, and the Twenty20 version the following year. In 2014, Mathews helped them go one better and clinch the World Twenty 20.

Mathews still holds the world record for the highest ninth-wicket ODI partnership, combining with Lasith Malinga for a 132-run stand to steal an unlikely win over Australia.

At the 2015 World Cup, he scored the fastest ODI half-century by a Sri Lankan player, smashing 50 off just 20 balls against Scotland in an innings that included five sixes.

Now 31-years-old but with over 200 ODIs under his belt, Mathews still has plenty left in the tank for another push for the World Cup trophy.

He's currently the ICC's 10th ranked ODI all-rounder.
