Biography:

In 2007, Sharma first stamped his mark on the international stage when he scored an undefeated 50 off 40 balls to guide India past South Africa and into the semi-finals of the World Twenty20.

In 2013, he made his test debut with a brilliant 177 against the West Indies, the second-highest score on debut by an Indian. He followed it up with a 111 not out at his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, becoming the third Indian cricketer to score back-to-back centuries in the first two tests.

Sharma really made the world take notice when he blasted 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014, becoming the first player to have scored two double-centuries in ODIs.

He added yet another three years later, with 208 not out as captain against Australia.

Sharma is a proven match-winner, and has a record of coming up trumps in high pressure situations. If he performs well in England, expect India to be right in the mix come finals time.

He's currently ranked second on the ICC's list of best ODI batsmen.
