Kiwi cyclist George Bennett has finished sixth overall in the Paris-Nice eight-day cycling race.

The Team Jumbo-Visma rider finished 14th on the 110km final-stage loop around Nice to consolidate his spot inside the top 10.

Overall, the 28-year-old finished 2m 20s behind race winner Egan Bernal of Columbia.

The 22-year-old beat compatriot Nairo Quintana by 39 seconds, with Poland's Michal Kwiatkowski back in third.

Nelson's Bennett had been on the cusp of the top 10 for much of the race, but made his move with a 19th-placed finish on the penultimate stage - the lone mountain stage on the tour.

Bennett will next compete in the Tour of the Basque Country in early April, before returning to the Tour of California in May.

The New Zealander won the Tour of California in 2017, while Bernal is the defending champion.
