Rangiora amateur Kazuma Kobori has fired a six-under-par 66 to extend his lead to four shots after the third round of the NZ PGA Championship in Christchurch.

The 17-year-old held a share of the lead at the halfway stage after rounds of 67 and 65 at the Pegasus golf club.

He was solid all day, scoring six birdies and no bogeys.

The Rangiora High School student holds his lead over Australian Cameron John who fired a third round 67 to sit at 14 under.

Kiwi golfer Josh Geary faded, shooting an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for fifth - six shots back.

Kabori, last year became the sixth player to win back-to-back titles at the Victorian boys amateur, winning by four shots.

Earlier, Kabori needed to play two holes at the start of the day to finish his second round which was delayed due to bad weather meaning the teenager played 20 holes on day three.
