Young Warriors forward Isaiah Papali'i has been stood down by the club for this weekend's 2019 NRL season opener.

The Kiwis international has been punished for an off-season drink-driving offence.

On Tuesday morning, Warriors coach Stephen Kearney confirmed the news that Papali'i would miss the clash with the Bulldogs - a decision backed by club chief executive Cameron George.

"We expect better from our players and anyone who falls short of our standards will be appropriately dealt with, irrespective of the time of year or their standing within the club," George said.

"Isaiah is extremely remorseful for his actions. He feels like he's let his teammates, the club, our fans and his family down.

"He is now determined to win back their respect and will also be fighting hard to earn back his spot in the team."

The 20-year-old was a standout performer throughout his 2018 debut season, earning a national team call-up and winning the Kiwis Junior Player of the Year award.
