Lock Michael Allardice will lead an inexperienced Chiefs squad for their Super Rugby match against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires on Sunday (NZ time).

With co-captains Brodie Retallick and Sam Cane missing, Allardice will get the chance to lead the Chiefs for the first time in his career.

Retallick is being rested as part of his All Blacks stand-down requirements, while Cane continues to recover from his severe neck injury.

Without Retallick, the Chiefs only have three players in their 23 who have more than 50 games of Super Rugby experience.

Following last week's 56-20 win over the Bulls in Pretoria, coach Colin Cooper has made four changes to the starting fifteen.

Allardice has been promoted from the bench, while the other alteration to the pack is at tighthead prop, where All Blacks Nepo Laulala and  Angus Ta'avao swap roles.

In the backline, Marty McKenzie replaces the injured Jack Debreczeni at first-five while Anton Lienert-Brown returns to the starting side at second-five, with Alex Nankivell dropping to the bench.

All Blacks hooker Nathan Harris will play his 50th game for the Chiefs.

"This week we want to continue to carry the momentum and confidence we have into the Jaguares match, said Cooper.

"The Jaguares are a very passionate team, and they have a strong set piece. We need to maintain a high tempo game and ensure our defence systems continue to improve, if we get that right then we should be in a good space."
