Super Rugby 2019: Rieko Ioane shines in Blues first win

Winger Rieko Ioane is the latest player to score four tries in a Super Rugby match - doing so against the Sunwolves as his Blues side recorded their first win of the season, winning 28-20 at QBE Stadium in North Harbour.

The match was tightly contested throughout the opening minutes of the match with both sides standing staunch in defence.

The visitors scored two penalties to open the scoring before the Blues got one of their own.

Rieko Ioane scored the first try of the match in the 21st minute - finishing off some quick passing from the hosts.

The Sunwolves hit back, out to prove that the win over the Chiefs last week was no fluke.

Rikiya Matsuda scoring after a great piece of skill from Michael Little found Rahboni Warren Vosayaco in some space - who found the first five and he went in for the try.

Ioane scored a second before half-time to send his side into the sheds with the momentum and the lead 15-13.

The 21-year-old completed the hat-trick in the 48th minute after some great ball distribution from the Blues backs.

Discipline let the visitors down in the second half as they had two men sent to the bin for deliberate knock-ons.

The icing on the cake for Ioane and the Blues came in the 58th minute as the All Black went over for his fourth try - becoming the fourth Blues player to do so.

The visitors hit back through Uwe Helu, but it wasn't enough as the Blues held on for their first win of the 2019 campaign.
