In a landmark moment for the crazy world of professional wrestling, WWE has announced a women's match will headline WrestleMania.

Sport entertainments version of the Super Bowl takes place at MetLife Stadium in New York on April 8, the 35th anniversary of WWE's premier event.

The main event will feature a Raw Women's Championship match between Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and former UFC superstar Ronda Rousey.

Rousey, the current champion, has only been in WWE for a year after making her debut in New Orleans at WrestleMania 34. The former UFC champion is also an Olympic medallist in judo and in 2018 she became the first women to be inducted into UFC's Hall of Fame.

Rousey has been the centre of WWE's key storyline in the last five months alongside Lynch and Flair, who is the daughter of the legendary 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair.

The trio's show-stealing moment is the culmination of a three-year re-brand by WWE in regards to women's wrestling.

Rousey's arrival signalled more eyes on WWE's product given her decorated career in combat sports where alongside Conor McGregor she was the biggest star in the UFC.

Last October Rousey headlined the very first all-women's pay-per-view event, Evolution, against reality television star Nikki Bella.
