Wellington Phoenix striker David Williams has won the Professional Footballers Australia Player of the Month Award for March, leading his team to fourth on the A-League ladder.

The Australian-born attacker has enjoyed a free-scoring season, with 11 goals in 23 appearances, just four goals behind teammate Roy Krishna, who leads the
A-League goal-scoring race.

Williams has shown his quality throughout the campaign and the Phoenix regular looks to continue his scoring spree, as Wellington target a long playoff run.

The 31-year old has impressed with his goal-scoring abilities, with world-class strikes against the Western Sydney Wanderers and the Newcastle Jets - earning him goal of the month nominations.

Last month, Williams found the back of the net five times, including a superb hat-trick against the Newcastle Jets in the 4-1 Phoenix win.

The clinical attacker has enjoyed his recent performances, but believes he and the team can still improve, as they drive towards a potential A-League home playoff game at Westpac Stadium.

"It’s always nice to perform on the level I have since returning to the A-League, but there's still much more to do and my focus is purely on attaining that home playoff final.

"To score goals, you need to have a good team around you and I'm lucky to be involved in such a cohesive team that works hard for each other.

"This award is for the team and hopefully we can add to it later on in the season, as we look to reach the Grand Final.”

David Williams hopes to add to his impressive goal scoring achievements on Friday night, as the Phoenix try to clinch their post-season spot in Brisbane at 9:50 pm NZT.
