Anthony Joshua's first venture into the United States is back on track, with reports American Andy Ruiz has agreed terms to fight the heavyweight kingpin.
Joshua was set to defend the WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles against Jarrell Miller on June 1 in New York.
But the brash American tested positive for banned drugs and was removed from the bout.
Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, has been on the hunt for a suitable replacement, with Luis Ortiz, Joseph Parker, Michael Hunter and Kubrat Pulev all looming as potential suitors.
But late last week, Ruiz threw his name into the hat and looks to have won the sweepstakes.
The 29-year-old is familiar to New Zealand combat sports fans, after losing a razor-close decision to Parker in 2016 for the then-vacant WBO title.
Ruiz has gone 3-0 since his first career setback and he provides the American exposure Hearn seeks, having fought 31 times in his country of birth.
Fox Sport reports 'The Destroyer' has signed a contract for the Madison Square Garden showdown.
An official announcement is expected within the next 48 hours.
