Super Rugby 2019: Barrett's help Hurricanes thrash Chiefs in Wellington

A Barrett brother's master class has helped their Hurricane's side to a 47-19 thrashing over the Chiefs in Wellington.

Jordie Barrett broke the game wide open with an outstanding try in the third minute, a well-executed set piece saw the fullback go over.

He scored again just four minutes later, finishing off a solo move where he ran half the field without being touched to double the hosts lead.

The Hurricanes couldn't do a thing wrong in the first 15 minutes and Kane Le'aupepe crossed to further the lead for the Hurricanes - the lock scoring off the back of a line out drive and successful pick and go's.

The Chiefs character was tested at 21-0 down - and they responded with two tries of their own through Luke Jacobson and Ataata Moeakiola to get the score to 21-12.

TJ Perenara scored a try just before half-time to take the score to 28-12 at the break.

Lachlan Boshier got the visitors off to the perfect start in the second half - scoring off an Anton Lienert-Brown just three minutes into the second 40.

Any thought of a Chiefs comeback was silenced through a Wes Goosen try.

Three of the Hurricanes All Blacks combined for the try of the night in the 56th minute, Ardie Savea earned a turnover and TJ Perenara collected the ball and made a break down the wing before finding his fullback Barrett who threw an inside ball to Savea - the big flanker drove his legs over the line and scored.

Hurricanes debutant Salesi Rayasi scored with just his second touch of the ball - going over to seal a very successful debut for the 22-year-old.

Beauden Barrett played a big part in a number of tries and was nearly flawless off the tee - kicking six from seven.

The home side relished in the win for the last six minutes as they played out their seventh win of the Super Rugby competition.
