Super Rugby 2019: Newshub tipping competition, week eleven

The old adage of it's a marathon, not a sprint, has come to fruition with Newshub's Super Rugby tipping competition.

Four weeks ago, Newshub rugby reporter John Day was almost 20-points behind then front runners', Ross Karl and Ollie Ritchie.

But a few questionable calls from Ritchie, a shift from the game plan for Karl and common sense picking from Day, has seen the 'Tasmaniac' jump the ladder and lead by a single point.

In fact, only five-points separate top from bottom with young gun Kristina Eddy also having a stellar two weeks, leaving her tied with the fading Andrew Gourdie at the bottom of the table.

With three games on deck this weekend you would think there would be a wide variety in tip across the board – that is not the case.

Our five tipsters almost unanimously agree about who will win and by how much - aside from a couple of eye-popping calls.

Ritchie has picked the Sunwolves to top the Highlanders in Tokyo on Friday night, while Eddy has the Hurricanes crushing the Chiefs by 13-plus.

If either of those to results come in, one of the dynamic Cantabrian duo could finish the weekend on top of the table.

The pressure is on as we head into the second half of the competition with our five punters looking to make their move on the home straight.

The rules are simple:

Pick the winner and margin of any Super Rugby game involving a New Zealand franchise, with points awarded in the following manner:

Pick the winner and margin (13-plus or 12-under) = three points.

Pick the winner only = one point.

Pick all results correctly including margin: five bonus points.

Super Rugby week seven:

Crusaders v Lions, Sunwolves v Highlanders, Hurricanes v Chiefs.

*Margin is based on the classic 12-under or 13-plus format.
