Yvette Williams died on April 13, aged 89. She was a track and field athlete, who held the world record in the women's long jump in ther prime.

Williams took home the gold from the 1952 Helsinki Games, becoming the first New Zealand woman to win an Olympic event.

Athletics New Zealand said earlier this month she "leaves behind a huge legacy in the sport that we love. Our thoughts are with Yvette's family and friends".

Sports Minister Grant Robertson called her "an extraordinary athlete, who blazed a trail for NZ women. RIP Yvette".
