The Tall Ferns have overcome the loss of forward Penina Davidson to qualify for the FIBA 3X3 World Cup basketball in June.

Davidson fell to an ankle injury during New Zealand's quarterfinal win over hosts Puerto Rico, and was unable to play in their key encounter with Spain and Brazil.

Her remaining teammates - guards Micaela Cocks and Chevannah Paalvast, and forward Kalani Purcell - had to play on without a substitute, but after dropping their semi-final to the Spanish, they ground out victory over the South Americans to cement the last remaining spot in the World Cup women's 20-team draw.

"I am lost for words to describe this group," posted coach Anthony Corban on Facebook. "They are amazing, classy and with a refuse-to-lose attitude.

"An honour and a privilege to coach this group. I am honestly spoilt, having players like this.

"Yet again the fighting spirit of that black singlet bows to no-one."

New Zealand will defend their 3X3 Asia Cup title in China later this month.
