Cricket: Martin Guptil hits out, but bows out of IPL playoffs

Barely sighted through the Indian Premier League, Blackcaps stars have finally produced a glimpse of their abilities, as skipper Kane Williamson's Sunrisers Hydrabad departed from the competition's playoffs.

While bowler Trent Boult and hard-hitting Colin Munro will progress to the next stage with their Delhi Capitals outfit, opening batsman Martin Guptill showed the best form of the Kiwis headed to this month's Cricket World Cup.

With the Sunrisers batting first, Guptill dominated Boult in the opening overs, hitting consecutive sixes off his international teammate, as he smashed 36 runs off 19 balls - the leading contributor to his team's 162 total.

Williamson chipped in with 28 runs off 27 balls, while Boult finished with figures of 1/37 off his three overs.

Delhi reached their target with one ball to spare, with Munro providing a 14-run/13-ball cameo along the way.

The Capitals now face Chennai Super Kings - including Blackcaps all-rounder Mitch Santner and Scott Kuggeleijn - for a spot in the IPL final against the Mumbai Indians.
