Biography:

Santner has forged a role the Blackcaps' most essential allrounder, capable of ticking over a run rate while also putting the clamps on the opposition's.

In 2015, the Hamilton product was called into the national squad as the spinning replacement for retiring great Daniel Vettori, and made an immediate impact on the tour of England.

He went on to star for New Zealand at the Twenty20 World Cup a year later, most notably in a man of the match performance against India.

Santner has worked his way to fifth on the ICC's Allrounder World Rankings.

Injuries have limited his production in recent seasons, but Santner's form will go a long way to determining how far New Zealand advances at the tournament.
