Golden State forward Kevin Durant will not play in game one of the NBA finals and may not travel with the team to Toronto due to his calf injury, coach Steve Kerr says.
Injured centre DeMarcus Cousins (quadriceps) was also listed as questionable, Kerr said on Tuesday (NZT).
Durant injured his right calf on May 8 in game five of the western conference finals against the Houston Rockets and has missed five playoff games.
Cousins tore the quad muscle in his left leg in game two of the first round of the playoffs against the Los Angeles Clippers on April 15, but the injury did not require surgery.
The Warriors take on the Toronto Raptors in the opening game of their best-of-seven finals series on Friuday (NZT).
"KD's not playing in game one," Kerr said. "We'll see where it goes from here.
"The fact there's a lot of days in between games in the finals helps us, so we'll see."
The Warriors play game two on Monday in Toronto, but Durant might not play in that game either.
Kerr said the Warriors were still to clear him for any on-court work.
They will officially re-evaluate Durant on Wednesday and if he's right to go, he will potentially have three practice days to increase his workload.
So far, his rehab has entailed treatment in the trainer's room and completing exercises in the weightroom.
"If he did anything on the court, it would've been pretty light, Kerr said.
"I know he's been out shooting some shots... but I'm not exactly sure what he's been doing [today]."
Kerr has not divulged his starting line-up, but some possibilities to start in Durant's place include Andre Iguodala and Alfonzo McKinnie.
