Netball World Cup 2019: Katrina Rore 'shocked' with Silver Ferns recall

Recalled Silver Ferns defender Katrina Rore admits she was "shocked" to get a call from coach Noeline Taurua saying she was going to the Netball World Cup.

Rore was one of 12 players named in Taurau's squad for the showpiece event, which takes place in Liverpool in July.

The former captain was dropped for last year's northern Quad Series, and hasn't featured for the Ferns since following a dismal Commonwealth Games campaign where New Zealand finished fourth.

Rore said she was expecting to miss out on the team when her phone rang on Wednesday afternoon.

"I was shocked to get a recall because I protected myself from disappointment, not thinking I was going to make it, so it was a pleasant surprise to get the call," she told Newshub.

"It was hard missing out on the January series so I went away and looked at myself, my game and training an how I could do things differently.

"I was already fit, but I needed to be stronger and fitter on the court and be more consistent on court and be better all-round."

Rore is the fourth most-capped Silver Fern in history, having competed at the past two Netball World Cups.

In total, there are 781 test caps in Taurua's squad.

But despite having 125 of those caps to her name, Rore says being recalled after such heartbreak feels like she's been selected for the first time all over again.

"When something has been taken away from you, and you want it so much, it feels so much better than the first time, and it makes you appreciate things so much more.

"The team of 12 looks outstanding, and I'm thrilled to be here."
