NRL 2019: Warriors' blossoming playmaking combination set for biggest test

The new playmaking partnership between Kodi Nikorima and Blake Green has got off to the best possible start - but not for the reason you think.

Since Nikorima's arrival, the Warriors have played both their matches away from home. That's meant two stints in hotels and a chance to get to know each other a little better.

"He's pretty quiet - he's a good roommate, Blake Green," Nikorima said.

"He doesn't snore either, so I like that about him," he added.

Green wasn't surprised to hear he got the tick of approval from his new halves partner.

"I'm pretty clean, so he hasn't got much to complain about."

But he conceded there were a few differences in how they like to spend their day.

"He [Nikorima] likes sleeping a lot. He doesn't get up until very late and then he turns the place into a bat cave for about three hours in the afternoon.

"I'm up very early. I don't sleep during the day, so I've just been hanging out in the lobby, waiting for him to get up really."

Only two games in, some clear differences between the two on the field have emerged as well.

Nikorima has been given the freedom to run and roam, while Green has been the general controlling the play from the rucks.

It hasn't happened by chance. Green pulled Nikorima aside one training to explain the direction he felt was best for the pair to take.

They've since grabbed the opportunity with both hands and believe it's just the beginning of something special.

"It's gonna take a bit of time," Nikorima said. "I still feel like we've got a long way to go and look, the sky's the limit for us."

That's sure to be music to the ears of Warriors fans, who have seen a four-game skid turn into a two-game streak since Nikorima's arrival

But this week will be their biggest challenge yet, not only because of the Broncos form  - they've also won two on the trot - but because of the history between them and Nikorima

"I've got a fair idea about what's gonna come at him [Nikorima]," Green said. "I reckon he'll get a fair bit of attention."

Despite an abrupt end to Nikorima's 13 years with the club, the 25-year-old said there was no animosity between him and Brisbane. And no loyalty either.

"We'll come in tomorrow, when we do our defence day, and I'll let them [the coaches] know what sort of plays that they run.

"I know all their calls too, so I guess that's an added bonus," Nikorima added.

Maybe a bigger bonus is the speed at which Green and Nikorima have gelled.

That's sure to hold them in good stead, for the biggest challenge of their partnership to date.
