Spanish squash officials have made a grovelling apology, after awarding sex toys to the female winners of their annual Asturias tournament near the northern city of Gijon.
Winner Elisabet Sado Garriga and runner-up Olaya Fernandez Lence received luxury vibrators as part of their prize package, and have complained of sexism and discrimination to their national body.
Other prizes included a waxing kit and an electronic exfoliator for their feet. They also received modest trophies.
"It's the height of sexism," says an Asturias Squash Federation spokesperson. "We had no idea the women were going to receive these gifts."
The players have also asked the Asturian Women's Institute to investigate the incident further.
Nacho Manzano, president of the local Oviedo club that organised the event, has already resigned, along with three others from the organising committee.
