Super Rugby 2019: Crusaders end tough four-game stretch against South African teams unbeaten

The Crusaders are taking the positives away from an impressive stretch of games against South African teams.

The red-and-blacks have faced four straight teams from South Africa, two at home and two away - and are unbeaten, claiming two wins and two draws.

"We've come out of a four-week South African window with 15 points out of 20 and had an awesome tour, we are looking forward to getting back to Christchurch," Crusaders assistant coach Brad Mooar said.

Their final result of the stretch was a nail-biting 19-19 draw with the Stormers in Cape Town.

"We go out to win the game and that's what we were after," Mooar said.

"It's disappointing to come out with a draw - the Stormers are outstanding and put us under pressure."

The game was marred by a controversial decision in the 75th minute where a try from Crusaders winger Sevu Reece was cancelled after television match official Marius Jonker determined there was a forward pass, despite replays seemingly indicating otherwise.

"We like the first decision better, at the same time that's what the officials are there to do - as it was it was really good work from Braydon and Sevu but that's not the reason why we drew the game," Mooar said.

Despite the decision, the visitors were up nine points with 30 minutes to go before the Stormers scored three penalties to tie the game.

"We had our opportunities but couldn't put together more than two or three positives in a row," Mooar said.

"It's a quality Stormers side full of Springboks and they put us under pressure and their set-piece did a great job."

The Crusaders sit nine points clear of the Hurricanes in the New Zealand conference, with the champions losing just one game this season.

They now return back to New Zealand to face the two struggling Kiwi teams, the Blues and Chiefs.
