The Chiefs will be without All Blacks hooker Nathan Harris when they take on the Crusaders in Fiji on Saturday.
Harris will take the second of his All Blacks-allocated rest weeks in what shapes as a must-win fixture against the defending champions in Suva.
Samisoni Taukei'aho will slot into the number two jersey in the only change to the forward pack that overcame the Reds in Hamilton last weekend.
Captain Sam Cane will make his second start since returning from a neck fracture and will play under no minute restriction, after being limited to a 50-minute spell last week.
In the backs, midfield lynchpin Anton Lienert-Brown returns from his All Blacks leave to start at second-five, while Jack Debreczeni steps in as the run-on pivot to shift Marty McKenzie to the bench.
Also in the reserves, All Blacks prop Angus Ta'avao moves in to back up Laulala at tighthead. Mitchell Jacobson will also make his mark from the bench.
The Chiefs still have a mathematical chance of advancing to the Super Rugby playoffs, and coach Colin Cooper says his team is well aware they'll need to be at their best in front of a partisan crowd.
"The Crusaders are a quality side and will be another tough challenge for us," said Cooper. We have everything to play for, we will need to make the most of any opportunities presented to us and when we are not attacking, we need to be disciplined and accurate with our defensive structures.
"We will have plenty of passionate fans behind us here in Fiji, it is certainly a home away from home for us. Once we stepped off the plane, we knew we were in Chiefs country."
