Germany's squad announcement video for the Women's football World Cup is gaining online traction for its powerful message of female empowerment.

The video, made by sponsor Commerzbank, features the players and manager Martina Voss-Tecklenburg highlighting the struggles they have faced in the women's game and the stereotypical comments they receive.

The voiceover includes lines like: "We don't have balls, but we know how to use them.

"We're the ones with make-up on our faces. We like to wear high heels and knee socks.

"We like to dance… when it comes to role models, we just have to look in the mirror.

"Don't worry, you don't need to know who we are, you just need to know what we want - to play our own game to our own beat."

The video has attracted more than one million views on social media.

Germany have won the Women's World Cup twice (2003 and 2007) and are eight-time European champions.

'Die Nationalelf' are among the favourites to win this year's tournament in France, running from June 7-July 7.
