Cricket World Cup 2019: Blackcaps coach Gary Stead resisting change for Aussie showdown

Blackcaps coach Gary Stead insists he won't be panicked into making changes ahead of their World Cup clash with Australia despite several members of the squad underperforming so far.

Despite the top order having been exposed once again against Pakistan, Stead is resisting any knee jerk reaction.

"We'll let the dust settle after yesterday and have a look at what happens tomorrow," said Stead. "But we'll consider those options as well."

But Colin Munro is one whose position is now surely close to untenable, and Stead has options to replace him.

Tom Latham is a natural opener, while Tom Blundell's shown his ability with the bat. Henry Nicholls has also been used in that position in the past.

"Henry's not an out-and-out opener and I think just because we're at a World Cup, I'm loathe to throw everything out of the basket that has been working for us."

But there is no hiding from their numbers at this World Cup. Munro and Martin Guptill are averaging just 37 for the first wicket, while Latham is averaging a measly six batting at five.
